If you earn very little, child benefit is sometimes not enough to cover all your costs. This is where the child supplement comes to your aid!

Important Facts

Do you receive child benefit and have a rather low income? Then you may be able to apply for a child supplement (KiZ) from the family benefits office in addition to child benefit.

The child supplement is only intended for parents who earn enough for themselves, but whose income is not enough or only just enough for the whole family. It doesn't matter whether you are married, a single parent or living with a partner.

The child supplement is paid in addition to child benefit. The family benefits office calculates whether and how much child supplement is paid for each family individually. You will receive a maximum of 250 euros per child per month. The child supplement also entitles you to education and participation benefits as well as free childcare.

Note: The child supplement is paid for 6 months. After that, you must reapply for it. If your situation has not changed, you can simply fill in a short application after 6 months.
