Regardless of whether you receive social benefits, care home allowance can be a separate form of support. If you have already applied for basic income support in old age, Cost-of-living assistance or Care assistance, you have the option of using a shortened application for care home allowance. This simplifies the process and saves time. Even if you do not receive any of these benefits, you can still apply for care allowance.

The most important facts in brief

The nursing home allowance in North Rhine-Westphalia was introduced to support people who live in fully residential care facilities. The support enables these people to cover the costs of their care home accommodation and thus maintain a certain standard of living.

Often, the income or assets of residents living in fully inpatient care facilities are not sufficient to cover all costs. In these cases, the nursing home allowance can be used as financial support in North Rhine-Westphalia. It serves to reduce the financial burden on the person in need of care up to a certain level. The care home allowance is a means of helping to cope with the costs associated with a care facility.

The decisive factor is that you are classified in care grade 2 or higher and that the care facility is one of the subsidized facilities in NRW.

Even if you have not previously received any social benefits, you may still be entitled to care home allowance. The responsible social welfare office in the municipality where you last lived will examine your application. This includes both assessing your entitlement to care home allowance and checking for possible priority benefits.

Not only the person in need of care can submit the application themselves, but also authorized representatives, court-appointed guardians or representatives of the care facility. This simplifies the process and makes it possible to obtain the necessary support in good time.
