The household members are obliged to inform the housing benefit authority of any changes that may affect the benefit and amount of the housing benefit until they receive the notice of approval. This information will be taken into account when the notice is issued.
Normally, the Housing benefit remains unchanged during the current approval period. However, it is possible to apply for an increase in the Housing benefit during the approval period if
- the number of household members to be taken into account has increased (for example, due to the birth of a child),
- the rent or charges to be taken into account have increased by more than 10 percent or
- the total income has decreased by more than 10 percent
and these changes lead to an increase in the Housing benefit.
In addition, the Housing Benefit Act stipulates that in cases where
- the number of household members to be taken into account is reduced ex officio,
- the rent or charges are reduced by more than 15 percent or
- the total income increases by more than 15 percent,
the Housing benefit must also be reduced or reclaimed during an ongoing approval period.
