In a nutshell

If your personal or financial situation changes while you are receiving benefits, for example due to

  • new or changed income, starting a new job, or a change in your work hours or salary,
  • a move,
  • changes in rent or utility costs,
  • changes in household members,
  • receiving other social benefits,

you must report these changes to the Job Center immediately.
Only by reporting these changes promptly can your benefits be calculated correctly, and this helps prevent incorrect payments and, in some cases, demands for repayment by the authorities.

A late or missing notification may also have legal consequences.

Am I eligible?

Notifying the Job Center of any changes is a legal requirement for anyone who is already receiving basic income support.
You are required to report any changes in your personal or financial circumstances to the Job Center immediately if these changes could affect your eligibility for benefits.

Required Documents

When you submit a change notification, you must include the appropriate supporting documents so that the Job center can adjust your benefits.

Typical examples include:

  • Starting a new job or a change in working hours or wages
  • Termination of employment
  • Moving or a change in rent or utility costs
  • People moving into or out of the household (e.g., partner, children)
  • Birth of a child

Deadlines

There are no deadlines for submitting applications.

You must submit the application to the Job Center whenever a change occurs. Changes in your personal or financial circumstances must be reported immediately as soon as they occur.

That's how long it takes

Once all your documents have been submitted, the Job Center will process your application. The processing time depends on the scope of the changes and the supporting documentation.

These costs are incurred

There is no charge for submitting the application.

Shared Responsibility

The Job center is responsible for your basic income support. There, you can receive all benefits “under one roof.” Job centers are either “joint agencies”—a joint administration of the Federal Employment Agency and the locally responsible municipality—or purely “municipal Job centers.”
