If you are looking for or taking up a new job or training, you can have your expenses (such as travel costs and costs for certificates) reimbursed. This also applies to expenses that you incur within the first 6 months of starting work.

The search for a new job can involve some costs. Sometimes it is even necessary to relocate in order to find the right job. Financial support from the placement budget is available so that you can concentrate fully on your job search or training.

The most important facts in brief

If you receive Citizen's Benefit, the Grant from Placement Budget is intended to help you find and start a new job or training. Your responsible job center can provide you with financial support by covering the following costs, for example

  • Application costs
  • Travel costs to job interviews
  • Costs for required documents (e.g. certified copies, translations)
  • Moving costs (if you have to move for the new job)

Please note that the Grant from Placement Budget is a discretionary benefit. You have no legal entitlement to the Grant from Placement Budget. Your local job center will decide whether and to what extent you receive financial support.

The application is free of charge and can be submitted verbally or in writing. Depending on the support you have applied for, you will need to submit the relevant receipts. Your contact person will tell you which documents need to be attached to the application.

You can use the social platform to submit an application for Grant from Placement Budget. If you have already done so, you can also use an online form to simply upload evidence or submit receipts for costs incurred.

You must submit your application for Grant from Placement Budget before the costs are incurred.

Who is entitled?

You can receive the grant if you

  • receive or have received basic security benefits, are unemployed or at risk of unemployment

    and

  • want to take up employment or training subject to compulsory insurance within the Federal Republic of Germany or
  • take up employment subject to compulsory insurance in a member state of the European Union (EU), a state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or in Switzerland. This must comprise at least 15 working hours per week.

You cannot receive Grant from Placement Budget if

  • The employer provides similar benefits for you.
  • Other public bodies are legally obliged to pay similar benefits.
  • You are seeking to take up self-employment, a civil servant position or a mini-job (does not qualify for a grant)
