Household members are required to notify the Housing Benefit authority of any changes that may affect the eligibility for or amount of the Housing Benefit until they receive the approval notice. This information is taken into account when the approval notice is issued.
Normally, Housing benefit remains unchanged during the current approval period. However, an increase in Housing benefit is possible upon request during the approval period if
- the number of household members to be considered has increased (for example, due to the birth of a child),
- the rent or housing costs to be taken into account have increased by more than 10 percent, or
- the total income has decreased by more than 10 percent
and these changes result in an increase in Housing benefit.
In addition, the Housing Allowance Act stipulates that, ex officio, in cases where
- the number of household members to be taken into account decreases,
- the rent or housing costs decrease by more than 15 percent, or
- the total income increases by more than 15 percent,
Housing benefit must be reduced or reclaimed even during a current approval period.
