Do you have a great business idea and would like to get started as an entrepreneur? The integration of the self-employed can support you in this.

Important facts

Do you receive Citizen's Benefit and are self-employed? Or do you want to take up full-time self-employment from your receipt of Citizen's Benefit? The Jobcenter can support and/or advise you with the integration of the self-employed.

The following services are eligible for support through the integration of the self-employed:

  • Material goods
  • Advice or placement services provided by third parties

The aim of the support is to enable you to earn your own living on a permanent basis within a reasonable period of time and no longer require a citizen's allowance.

The integration of self-employed persons is a discretionary benefit. This means that there is no legal entitlement to it. Your Jobcenter will check on an individual basis whether the conditions for this support are met.

Important:

You must apply for benefits for the integration of self-employed persons before the expected costs are incurred.

Who is entitled?

If you would like to receive support for the integration of self-employed persons from your Jobcenter, certain conditions must be met:

  • You receive citizen's allowance
  • Your self-employed activity is your main occupation or you would like to become self-employed as your main occupation. This means that you work at least 15 hours per week
  • Your self-employment must have a positive forecast for economic viability. This means that your business model must be well thought out so that you can be successful in self-employment in the long term. This forecast ("expert opinion") must come from a so-called expert body. Expert bodies are, for example, chambers, trade associations or start-up initiatives. Your job center will inform you about the regional offices
  • You are personally suitable
  • You have exhausted alternative financing options, for example a bank loan or funding from third parties

You cannot claim funding if you

  • are a rehabilitant. This refers to people for whom it is particularly difficult to work due to illness or a physical or mental disability.
  • have not yet exhausted alternative financing options, for example a bank loan or funding from third parties.
  • have not applied for benefits for the integration of self-employed persons before the expected costs arise.
  • could also procure the eligible material goods in other ways, such as through federal and state programs, local business development or bank loans.
