If you have only a small salary or cannot find a job, the state can support you with various benefits. There are different types of financial assistance available to ensure that you can cover your living costs.
Unemployment benefit, or ALG (from the German word Arbeitslosengeld), provides a social safety net in case you lose your job or training position. It replaces part of your missing income so that you can continue to pay your bills.
If you are not currently employed and are not entitled to unemployment benefit, you may be entitled to unemployment benefit II. This also applies if you earn so little that you cannot meet your living costs.
